SunLink(TM) Message Handling System (MHS) enables electronic mailcommunication between users of mail programs and other systems that usethe 1984 X.400 standard. X.400 is an international standard developed byCCITT and ISO. By virtue of multivendor support for X.400, heterogeneousmail communication can be achieved.SunLink MHS is a software gateway product that translates between theSun(TM) native mail protocol (SMTP) developed by the Department ofDefense, and the international standard X.400 protocol. It can routemessages over Ethernet or FDDI LANs. SunLink MHS can also connect Sunmail users to worldwide mail networks over packet-switched data networks(PSDNs), thus facilitating worldwide message exchange.
